Starting with a 2000 mile road trip, this summer has been a busy one for JP. It has included several visits to St. Louis's kid friendly attractions (the Magic House, Faust Park, City Museum, and City Garden), as well as a week long holiday in Texas with my family. With the school year starting soon, the summer will conclude with a visit from Andrew's parents later this month!
Despite his young age it is clear that JP is the master of this household. Tall enough to get into every drawer and closet yet still small enough to squeeze behind the entertainment center, no one is able to move freely in the house. Wherever JP is, that is where you will find Andrew and I consantly on gaurd and waiting for his next move! James is a bundle of kinetic energy these days. Though there are times when he is happy enough to snuggle into your lap and read a book, he is more often than not running around the basement or his playroom constantly exploring or kicking his football.
His language skills continue to develop and he now uses about thirty words or sounds to express his needs and wants, though his comprehension is much more developed. He is also a very creative young man, "in touch with his artistic side". He sings without a care of anyone hearing and dances around the room whever he hears music. Watching him at this stage, I only hope that JP still has the same carefree, life loving attitude when he is a grown man.
Of course at 18 months, JP is starting to show some signs of moving into the "Terrible Two's". Though most days are drama free, there are moments when all one can do is take a deep breathe and hope that mood passes quickly. Despite the temper tantrums and the odd nip of his teeth JP is a wonderful little boy, and the best parts of Andrew and I.
