In an effort to make myself as uncomfortable as possible I've decided to take JP to Spain next week. I'm going there on business (a choir tour) and thought it would be a great idea to bring JP along. (Honesty - I just couldn't bear the thought of not seeing him for eight days). My logic behind the decision was that it will give Andrew some quiet time to work on our upcoming move to St. Louis. Plus Granny and Granda Ball will be flying in to visit with him (since we are in the neighborhood) and my Mom will be traveling with us to help out with the day to day care taking. Sounds like a good plan huh?! A few weeks ago I wasn't concerned in the slightest.....but oh how things have changed.
In the last few weeks J.P. has become - as expected - more and more independent. He "prefers" to feed himself instead of taking food from a spoon, has developed a food critics palate (anything he doesn't like finds its way onto the floor), prefers to crawl or cruise from point A to point B instead of sitting on your lap, and under no circumstances wants to lay down on his back - regardless of the state of his clothing or the conents of his diaper. Needless to say I'm a bit worried about the 9-10 hour flight from Dallas to Madrid. Airplane lavatories were not made for 6ft tall women trying to wrestle a 23lb baby out of a dirty diaper!
On the other hand JP is at an age where most things impress and amuse him (if only for a short time), so he is typically very easy to manage, and Spain seems to be a very family friendly place. Plus - we embrace every opportunity to get JP and his Grandparents together!
So - today I'm going to approach the task of packing his suitcase. Is there a calculation that would identify the correct amount of snacks neccessary for keeping a toddler happy on a 9 hour flight? Hmmmm......
P.S......... the weather in Spain is forecast to be snowy and rainy with a high of 48 F. (UGH!)
